Getting around

Take the ferry — it’s the best way to see the coast

The Amalfi Coast road (SS163) is narrow, winding, and heavily congested in summer. Ferries run daily from Maiori to Positano, Amalfi, Minori, Cetara, Vietri, and Salerno. Single tickets start at ~€10. Day passes for unlimited travel are available.

Recommended

Departs from Maiori harbour (400m from the apartment). Fast, scenic, and no traffic. Runs every 30–60 min to Amalfi, Positano, Salerno.

SITA Bus

Budget option

Stop on Corso Reginna, 150m away. Line 5120 connects all coastal towns to Salerno. Day pass €10 (COSTIERASITA 24h) for unlimited rides.

Parking available

Parcheggio Mandara — 30m from the apartment, 24h video-surveilled. Street parking (blue lines) on the seafront, ~€3/hour. Expect heavy traffic on the SS163 in summer.

Maiori

Start early to beat the traffic. Grab espresso at a bar on the lungomare before heading out.

Amalfi

Visit the 9th-century Cathedral of St. Andrew, explore the Paper Museum, and get sfogliatella at Pasticceria Pansa. Allow 2 hours.

Positano

Walk the steep streets to Spiaggia Grande, browse the linen shops, and have lunch at a terrace restaurant. The SITA bus stop is at the top of town.

Ravello

End the day 350m above sea level. Villa Rufolo gardens are magical at golden hour. If visiting in summer, check the Ravello Festival concert schedule.

Maiori Harbor

Ferries depart from the main harbor. Buy tickets at the booth or book a private gozzo boat for more flexibility. Morning departures are less crowded.

Amalfi

Quick stop at Amalfi's harbor. From the water, you get the best view of the town stacked against the mountainside.

Emerald Grotto

A submerged cave near Conca dei Marini where sunlight enters through an underwater opening, turning everything emerald green. Small rowboats take you inside. Allow 30 minutes.

Positano

Arrive by sea for the iconic view of Positano's colored facades. Swim at one of the smaller beaches before catching the return ferry.

Maiori

Start early, bring at least 1.5L of water per person, wear proper hiking shoes, and carry sun protection. Pack a lunch — there are no shops on the trail.

Ravello

Take the SITA bus from Maiori. Ravello is the gateway to the mountains. Walk through Villa Cimbrone gardens before the trail.

Path of the Gods

The trail runs from Bomerano (Agerola) to Nocelle. About 7.8 km, mostly flat with some steep sections. The views are constant and breathtaking. Allow 3-4 hours for the walk.

Positano

From Nocelle, descend 1,700 steps to Positano (or take the local bus). Reward yourself with a cold beer and a swim at the beach.

Head east along the coast road. The drive is scenic but much less trafficked than the western route toward Positano.

Minori

Just 5 minutes from Maiori. Visit the Roman Villa (1st century AD), then get ndunderi pasta and a ricotta e pera dessert at Sal De Riso, one of Italy's most famous pastry chefs.

Cetara

A real fishing village, not a tourist one. Buy a bottle of colatura di alici — liquid gold made from anchovies. Eat fresh anchovies at Acqua Pazza restaurant.

Vietri sul Mare

The gateway to the coast, famous for hand-painted ceramics. Visit the Ceramica Artistica Solimene factory (the building itself is a masterpiece) and shop for tiles and pottery.

Start with breakfast at a local bar — cornetto with crema and a strong espresso. Visit the morning fish market near the harbor to see what the boats brought in.

Minori

Pastry capital of the coast. Sal De Riso's lab is here — try the delizia al limone, ricotta e pera, and the legendary ndunderi pasta. Book a pastry workshop if available.

Cetara

The home of colatura di alici, an ancient fish sauce descended from Roman garum. Visit a producer, buy a bottle, and have a seafood lunch at a harbor trattoria.

Tramonti

Up in the mountains behind the coast, Tramonti is the hidden wine region. Visit a cantina to taste local Tintore and Per'e Palummo wines. Pizza was arguably invented here — try it at a local pizzeria with wood-fired ovens.
